This
information is being posted to help you calculate your dues obligation, explain
your contractual obligations and explain the withdrawal card process and how it
impacts your membership privileges.
Specific
questions about your dues deductions can be directed to the
Secretary-Treasurer's office at 859-392-0413.
Section One: Dues Calculation
To calculate your dues obligation, multiply the amount of your flight hour pay
by 1.125. The result is your monthly dues obligation, which is currently split
over two checks and rounded off (up if the result is above 50 cents or down if
the result is below 50 cents) to avoid using cents.
Example: If your rate of pay per flight hour is $24.43; 24.43 x 1.125 = 27.36
(rounded to $27.00 per month).
This amount will be due any month in which you work at least one day. It
will also be due if you return from a leave on any day during a given calendar
month.
Your dues obligation begins on the first day of the second calendar
month following the month you began employment. So, if you were hired in
May, your dues payments and initiation fees would begin in July. If you signed a
dues check off card your initiation fee will be deducted from your paycheck on
the 15th of July. Since your dues are tied to your hourly flight pay rate,
increases are calculated and changes made to your dues amounts on the first
day of the second calendar month following the pay increase.
Section Two: Withdrawal From Dues
If you are on an unpaid status for a full calendar month, (medical leave, FMLA,
furlough, etc.), you may continue to pay dues or request a Withdrawal Card.
A Withdrawal Card allows you to withdraw from dues obligations while you are not
receiving a paycheck but affects your eligibility to nominate someone to run for
office, run for office, and vote. The Teamsters Constitution requires a member
be active without interruption for twenty four calendar months prior to an
election nomination. You may also elect to pay your dues by personal check
while off on a leave in order to remain active and retain your rights. These
checks are due at the Local office by the last business day of the month. While
you are on a withdrawal status you may attend meetings.
To be eligible for a Withdrawal Card a member must have paid all required dues
to date. The application must be received within ninety days of the beginning of
the leave by returning a Withdrawal Card Application form to the Local 513
office or faxing it to 859-283-5032. When you return from leave, contact Local
513 to re-activate your membership. To process this request, we need your last
date worked and the date of your first trip. It is always best to wait until
after this trip is worked, as these can change.
Section Three: The Contractual Obligation, and
Result of Decision to Pay Dues or Be on Withdrawal During a Leave/Non-Pay status
If you do not request a Withdrawal Card,
you will be responsible for dues that accrue while you are on leave. Withdrawal
Card requests received after ninety days from your first date of leave/unpaid
status cannot be processed.
Suspension from Membership/Re-Initiation
Fees- A Member must automatically be put on suspension ninety days after a
leave or unpaid status begins if a withdrawal card has not been processed or the
member has not returned to work or sent in a check. According to the Teamsters
Local 513 By-Laws, anytime dues are in arrears for ninety-days, we must charge a
Re-Initiation Fee of $100 to return you to active status after suspension.
Member in Good Standing- In order to
hold office at the Local Union or vote on Local Union issues, a member must have
been an active member in good standing for at least two years prior to the
election. We cannot automatically put a member on withdrawal upon discovering
they are on a leave, as we would have no notice of whether that member is
considering running for office on the next election and this would disqualify
him/her. Therefore, each member must notify us if they want to continue to pay
dues to ensure voting and holding office, or seek a withdrawal card-which would
prevent voting and affect eligibility for office.
